Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Vinique (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the Vinique mobile app and related services on iOS and Android, as well as our website (vinique.eu). It also tells you the choices you have and how to reach us about your data.

1. Who we are

Vinique is a wine companion app that lets you scan a wine label, identify the bottle, see ratings, save bottles to your collection, and add tasting notes. The service is operated by Vinique. For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@vinique.eu.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account information. When you create an account, we store an account identifier. If you sign in with email, we store your email address. You may also use the app as an anonymous (guest) user, in which case no email is collected.
  • Photos you scan. When you scan a label, the photo you capture or select is uploaded to our servers so it can be analyzed and the wine identified.
  • Your wine content. Bottles you save to your collection, tasting notes, lists, and similar content you add in the app.
  • Communications. Information you send us when you contact support or email us.

Information collected automatically

  • Diagnostics and crash data. We use error- and performance-monitoring (Google Crashlytics and Sentry) that records technical information such as error logs, request metadata, app version, and device/OS details to keep the app reliable. Sentry is configured not to collect your IP address or other directly identifying information, and captures occasional, sampled session-replay recordings of app screens, with personal data masked, to help us diagnose problems.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used — such as which features and screens are opened — through usage events and device identifiers. Where we are required to obtain consent (for example in the EEA/UK), analytics is off until you opt in, and you can change your choice at any time in the app settings.
  • Usage and device data. Basic technical data needed to operate the service, such as IP address and request timestamps handled by our hosting and infrastructure providers.
  • Website analytics. On our website (vinique.eu) we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic, such as page views and referrers. It is privacy-focused and cookieless — it sets no cookies and does not track you across sites. To provide this, your IP address is processed transiently at Cloudflare's edge (for example to derive approximate country and filter bots) and is not used to identify you or stored as part of an analytics profile.

3. How we use your information

  • Identify wines from the photos you scan and show ratings, details, and matches.
  • Save and sync your collection, notes, and lists across your sessions and devices.
  • Operate, secure, debug, and improve the app, including fixing crashes and preventing abuse.
  • Respond to your requests and communicate with you about the service.
  • Comply with legal, accounting, and tax obligations.

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that process it on our behalf to run the app, and where required by law:

  • Google Cloud — authentication, hosting, database, storage of your account data, saved content, and uploaded label photos, and processing of those photos to recognize the wine.
  • Google (Firebase) — analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) and crash reporting (Crashlytics) to measure usage and keep the app reliable, under Google's data processing terms.
  • Sentry — error- and performance-monitoring and session replay. Sentry processes this data on its EU infrastructure.
  • Cloudflare — content delivery, security, and privacy-focused website analytics for vinique.eu, under Cloudflare's data processing terms.
  • Legal and safety — to comply with applicable law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.

These providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

5. Data retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we delete your account data and associated content, including uploaded label photos.

6. Your rights and choices

  • Delete your account. You can delete your account and associated data directly in the app. Anonymous (guest) data is local to your session and is not retained as a durable account.
  • Access, correction, and deletion. Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA/UK under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing.
  • Camera and photos. Scanning requires camera or photo-library access, which you grant through your device. You can change this permission in your device settings at any time.
  • Analytics choices. You can turn analytics on or off at any time in the app settings. Where we rely on consent, no analytics data is collected until you opt in.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@vinique.eu. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Children’s privacy

Vinique is intended for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit and access controls on our cloud infrastructure, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.

10. Contact us
